Message From Chair

Welcome to the Department of Biomedical Engineering (BME) at UC Irvine! Founded in 2002, we are a diverse, fast-growing community of 32 faculty, dozens of professional researchers, 150 graduate students, and over 550 undergraduates. Together with our dedicated and hard-working staff, who support our educational and research missions, we are tackling problems at the intersection of engineering, biology and medicine, with the goal of improving people’s health while driving the economic growth of our region, state and the nation.

Whether you join us as a student or a professional, you will be contributing to our research and educational mission, which is to “Inspire Engineering Minds to Advance Human Health.” This mission is well integrated within and supported by our local community as Orange County is home to 150 biomedical device companies. Our Corporate Advisory Board includes local biomedical industry leaders, who help us fulfill this mission while providing guidance, advocacy and a broad perspective. Our department has strong ties to the UC Irvine’s School of Medicine, with many of our faculty members holding joint appointments there or collaborating with clinicians to translate their technologies from the laboratory to the bedside.

I invite you explore the rest of our department website to learn more about our degree programs, research opportunities and accomplishments, and our talented faculty. I also invite you to visit us on the beautiful UCI campus or engage with us in other meaningful ways.

Thank you.

Sincerely,

Zoran Nenadic
