Faculty appointment (2022)

Julián Rimoli

The Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering is very pleased to welcome Julián J. Rímoli to our faculty. Rímoli obtained his engineering diploma in aeronautics from Universidad Nacional de La Plata in 2001 and his M.Sc. and Ph.D. in aeronautics from Caltech in 2005 and 2009, respectively. Upon graduation, Rimoli joined the Department of Aeronautics and Astronautics at MIT as a postdoctoral associate, where he performed research for over a year and a half. He joined Georgia Tech in 2011, where he was recently the Pratt & Whitney Professor.

His research interests lie within the broad field of computational mechanics of materials and structures, with special interest in problems involving multiple length and time scales, and in the development of theories and computational techniques for seamlessly bridging them. He is an associate fellow of AIAA, and is the recipient of the NSF CAREER Award, the Donald W. Douglas Prize Fellowship, the Ernest E. Sechler Memorial Award in Aeronautics, the James Clerk Maxwell Young Writers Prize, the Lockheed Dean's Award for Excellence in Teaching, the Class of 1940 Teaching Effectiveness Award, and the Goizueta Junior Faculty Professorship.
