Freshmen

Congratulations on your admission to UCI and the Samueli School of Engineering! Before getting started in the fall, there are some things you need to do in order to ensure a smooth transition.

Activate your UCInetID

Complete the Anteater Zot Start tutorial

Newly admitted freshmen must complete this pre-orientation tutorial before making reservation for one of the orientation programs.

Summer Orientation

Academic advising takes place over the summer months during orientation, and is the first place to receive information for newly admitted students. During the academic advising portion of orientation, students will discover details about The Henry Samueli School of Engineering and prepare themselves to start classes in the fall. All first-year engineering students must attend at least one orientation session before starting in the fall. Failure to attend will result in removal or loss of enrollment in classes.

All new freshmen are required to attend summer orientation**.

Orientation includes academic advising, class registration, and much more! After activating your UCInetID in early May, you will be able to sign up for the orientation. Note: Please check the orientation and testing dates before you plan your summer vacation dates or other commitments.

**Summer Bridge and CAMP participants exempted.

Get your testing done early! Tests take place as early as June and special accommodations can be made to take them in a facility near you.

ALL TESTING MUST BE COMPLETED BEFORE ATTENDING ORIENTATION.

Register for placement tests

Unless course placement has been otherwise satisfied (see Testing Center website), Engineering students are required to take the following placement tests: Math Assessment for Physics Placement (MAPP), Calculus and Analytical Writing. Visit the Testing Center website to determine which placement tests you need and to register for those tests.

Students should check their "MyAdmissionsApplication@UCI" page prior to attending orientation and bring copies of ALL transcripts and/or AP exam results to their academic advising session.

Additional Advising Information

If a student is unable to attend one of the orientation sessions or has additional questions about academic advising, please contact the Dean of Students. Freshman classes fill up very quickly and enrollment is not always guaranteed. Failure to complete certain courses in the first quarter may require an additional year at UCI to complete the degree. It is the student's responsibility to satisfy these requirements.
