Macromolecular Engineering
The rational design and characterization of mechanical, biological, electronic and optical properties of macromolecular systems are critical towards pushing technological advancements to promote sustainable energy, environmental and human health applications. CBE @ UCI aims to understand structure-function relationships and use them to design advanced macromolecular systems. Macromolecular engineering research in our department involves a variety of topics including novel polymers, biologically-inspired materials, self-assembling systems, rheology of complex fluids, and micro-and nano-structured materials and composites. We also have ongoing efforts that utilize macromolecular materials for biomedical (e.g., tissue engineering and drug delivery), sensing, energy and electronic applications.
