UC Irvine has opened a new research facility aimed at making breakthrough discoveries in zero-emission and autonomous vehicle technology. Irvine-based Horiba, a manufacturer of analytical and measurement instruments, donated $9 million to establish the institute as part of UCI’s Advanced Power and Energy Program. Called the Horiba Institute for Mobility and Connectivity2, it is housed in UCI’s Engineering Gateway building.
In a paper published recently in the American Geophysical Union journal Earth’s Future, experts in UC Irvine’s Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering caution that relatively new, nation-scale flood data provides an inadequate representation of local topography and infrastructure, factors known to control the spread of floods in urban areas. “In our analysis of Los Angeles County…we found that estimates of countywide flood exposure from the nationwide data are actually similar to what we find with our more detailed models.
The graduate program in Networked Systems is administered by faculty from two academic units: the Department of Computer Science (CS) in the Donald Bren School of Information and Computer Sciences, and the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (EECS) in The Henry Samueli School of Engineering. The program offers M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Networked Systems.

Researchers at the University of California at Irvine have developed a new immunotherapy screening technique that will allow doctors to target tumors without the side effects of standard cancer drugs, giving specialists the opportunity to create individualized cancer treatments. The tracking and screening system identifies T-cell receptors with 100 percent specificity for individual tumors, according to Lab On A Chip.
