DOE Supports Energy Efficiency to Improve Community Resilience
Ensuring access to a secure building at a suitable temperature is of paramount importance for the well-being of communities during severe weather events and climate-related disasters. In California, the DOE is actively supporting innovative housing initiatives. These developments incorporate high-efficiency electric appliances, solar panels, and battery systems. They are also integrated into microgrids designed to remain operational, even in the event of grid blackouts triggered by climate-induced wildfires, heatwaves, or storms.

Deadly heatwaves surge in India, with worse ahead, researchers say
A modest 0.5 degree Celsius rise in average temperatures in India over the last 50 years has led to a nearly 150 percent hike in heatwaves that kill at least 100 people, said researchers at the University of California in Irvine.

Winter 2012
Since taking on the position of department chair in July 2010, I’ve had the chance to get reacquainted with many of our alumni. Rarely do I attend a local professional meeting, or visit a local agency or consultancy, and not come across one of our successful graduates. Like a proud parent, it warms my heart to see our graduates in a professional setting, having matured and taken on responsibilities in leadership roles, and by serving the best interests of their employers and profession.

What is the deadline for Fall 2026 online applications and supporting documents/scores?- To receive maximum consideration, the application fees, online application and all required materials and scores must be received by the priority deadline of 5:00 p.m. PST, January 15. Subsequent to the priority deadline, applications, fees and materials may be submitted until January 31.
- The required materials include: Transcripts, TOEFL/IELTS score (if applicable), electronic letters of recommendation, and statement of purpose.
