Diabolical design is a puzzle
Using compressive steel plates, engineers at the University of California Irvine (UCI) found that it can take an applied force of about 150 newtons – a load at least 39,000 times its body weight – before its exoskeleton begins to fracture. … “The ironclad is a terrestrial beetle, so it’s not lightweight and fast but built more like a little tank,” says UCI’s David Kisailus.
Congratulations to the Class of 2013! The Design, Build, Fly Team ended the year on a high note by taking first place in a national competition. Our commencement celebration featured nearly 100 senior design project displays and demonstrations. Families and friends witnessed their graduates accepting the obligation of the Order of the Engineer and a stainless steel ring.
