Two UC Irvine scientists, Dr. Kathleen Treseder and Dr. Brett Sanders, spoke at the event about the need for the bill (click here for our recent story on Treseder’s research on the link between climate change and Valley fever; click here for our extensive look at how sea-level rise will affect Orange County’s coastline, which relied heavily on Sanders’s research).
“The thing that we must realize is that actually achieving a zero emissions goal is a little more complicated than the popular thinking understands,” said Jack Brouwer, director of the National Fuel Cell Research Center at the University of California, Irvine. Read More

The Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (EECS) has two key goals: to advance the minds of future leaders by providing the finest education to our students and consistently meet industry needs by developing cutting-edge technology. Our faculty believes that engineering plays an integral role in the modernization of society by leading the development of tools and devices that benefit humankind and improve quality of life.
UCI doctoral candidate Mya Le Thai has developed a nanowire-based technology that allows lithium-ion batteries to be recharged hundreds of thousands of times. … After playing around in the lab, she made a discovery that could lead to a rechargeable battery that could last up to 400 years.
Adeyemi Adeleye struggles with his houseplant relationships. … Luckily, Adeleye, an [assistant professor and] environmental chemist at the University of California, Irvine, is better at building relationships with collaborators from different disciplines. His work on nanoparticles for environmental remediation and water treatment spans chemistry, materials science, biology, and these days, agriculture.
Aerospace Engineering deals with all aspects of aircraft and spacecraft design and operation, thus requiring the creative use of many different disciplines. Aerospace engineers work on the forefront of technological advances and are likely to be leaders in scientific discoveries.
The School of Engineering receives many more graduate applications than can be accommodated. Minimum requirements are as follows:
