Bio-Transport Phenomena

Faculty: Grant, George, Venugopalan

Research in this area focuses on two different areas of biological transport: (1) the transport of energy or mass within biological systems, and (2) the transport of biological particles (i.e., viruses, bacteria, protozoa) through environmental systems. Examples of the first category of research include the transport of light energy in human tissue in next-generation medical diagnostic devices carried out by Professor Vasan Venugopolan, and the transport of nitric oxide and other gases in the respiratory and cardiovascular systems (carried out by Professor Steven George, and (2) the transport of human pathogens and fecal indicator organisms in drinking water supplies and the coastal ocean carried out by Professor Stanley Grant.
