The 2020 For Women in Science fellows are being honored for their important research across a wide range of fields, from Integrative Biology to Material Science & Engineering: … Wendy Brown, whose research in Biomedical Engineering at the University of California, Irvine, focuses on growing cartilage from cells in anatomical shapes and sizes for surgical implantation. Her research seeks to help millions of people around the world with facial damage due to cancer, burns, congenital defects, or other physical trauma.
L’Oréal USA revealed the 2020 recipients of its For Women in Science fellowship. The program, in its 17th incarnation, gives $60,000 research grants to five female postdoctoral scientists.
The Samueli School of Engineering has the need for part‐time lecturers for graduate courses in the Master of Engineering program in various areas such as intrepreneurship/intrapreneurship for engineers, engineering capstone projects, biomedical engineering, digital and image signal processing, high speed communication circuits and systems, machine learning, energy systems, and machines and systems.
Salary commensurate with technical and teaching experience and/or level of education.
Employing newly developed electron microscopy techniques, researchers at the University of California, Irvine (UCI) and other institutions have, for the first time, measured the spectra of phonons at individual crystalline faults, and they discovered the propagation of phonons near the flaws. “Point defects, dislocations, stacking faults and grain boundaries are often found in crystalline materials, and these defects can have a significant impact on a substance’s thermal conductivity and thermoelectric performance”, said senior co-author Xiaoqing Pan from UCI.
