Students, Staff and Faculty Enjoy E-Week

E-Week 2013 proved a rousing success as students burst hot dogs into flames, built bridges with Popsicle sticks and dropped eggs five stories. They chatted with potential employers at the Engitech Career Fair, played softball with faculty, helped high schoolers make bridges from pasta and candy, and recognized professors, teaching assistants and students at the awards banquet.

Nearly 1,000 students participated in the week of activities. Organized by the Samueli School’s Engineering Student Council (ESC), E-Week is an annual event aimed at increasing public awareness and appreciation for the engineering profession. This year’s theme was “Some call it magic, we call it engineering.”

Participants were issued an ESCan bracelet, which was developed by an engineering student and first used last year as a way to track attendance and gather data.

“Our goal was to reach as many students as we could,” says Liz Brooks, a senior engineering student and ESC vice president of communications. “The number of participants was very high and everyone really enjoyed it.  For me, the highlight was the student-faculty softball game. It was fun to see everyone get competitive and a great way to end E-Week.”
