The Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering at UC Irvine invites applicants for a postdoctoral scholar to join Han Li's laboratory of metabolic engineering and synthetic biology.
This postdoctoral position is available in the area of integrated computational–experimental enzyme engineering, focused on advancing biocatalysts through tightly coupled in silico design and high-throughput experimental validation.
In California, there are more than 14,000 miles of urban and rural levees. They protect dry land, cities, towns, homes, businesses, farms and public property from floods. … "On average, they are 57 years old and many of them were built using standards that were much less rigorous than are current building practices," said UC Irvine Climate and Flood Scientist [Professor] Amir AghaKouchak. … "We're not doing enough. Lack of maintenance is one of the biggest issues in my opinion," said AghaKouchak. … "Future earthquake can cause actual collapse and failure," said AghaKouchak.
Position Overview
The Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering at UC Irvine invites highly motivated applicants for a postdoctoral scholar position in the Ardoña lab. This scholar will develop and investigate energy-transporting biomolecular assemblies within cellular or physiologically relevant environments.
Tom Yuen (’74 electrical engineering) was on dialysis for 42 years, and I’m sad to learn that the serial entrepreneur who cofounded AST Research passed away at age 70 on February 13. But I’m glad to know that he beat the odds on his kidney disease for far longer than doctors expected.
The Post-Award Team works closely with Principal Investigators (PI), the Office of Research, Beall Applied Innovation (BAI), Contracts & Grants Accounting, Other University Units, and Sponsors to ensure compliance and to provide outstanding support from award set-up through award close-out.
The UCI Department of Material Science and Engineering in the Samueli School of Engineering is anticipating openings in the Project Scientist Series throughout the academic year 2026-2027. These positions offer a stimulating array of research and training opportunities within the various labs in the department.
"We developed a novel technique to differentially map phonon momenta with atomic resolution, which enables us to observe nonequilibrium phonons that only exist near the interface," said co-author Xiaoqing Pan, UCI professor of materials science and engineering and physics, Henry Samueli Endowed Chair in Engineering, and IMRI director.
The American Chemical Society featured the mitochondria research being conducted by Professor Peter J. Burke in a recent issue of “Chemical and Engineering News.” Below is an excerpt:
It’s OK to be cautious, but to be so fearful of failure that you stop trying is deleterious. … a panel of successful people discussed failure. The participants were … Michelle Khine, an associate professor of biomedical engineering, chemical engineering and materials science at UC Irvine ... Khine talked about having hundreds of bad ideas in science for every great idea.
The UCI Department of Materials Science and Engineering in the Samueli School of Engineering is anticipating openings of postdoctoral scholar positions (Levels 0-IV). These positions require a Ph.D. in Materials Science or closely related field and subject-matter expertise in one or more of the following areas:
