Farghalli Mohamed (FAM), Ph.D.
Professor Emeritus
Department of Materials Science and Engineering
This social hour honors Professor Emeritus Farghalli Mohamed (FAM), showcases groundbreaking MSE research, and provides an opportunity to connect with MSE@UCI graduate students and faculty!
When FAM came to the School of Engineering in 1980, there were only 13 faculty members, 30 graduate students and 300 undergraduates. FAM founded the Materials Science and Engineering (MSE) program, which has lovingly earned him the nickname “The Godfather.” He is also credited with creating the interdisciplinary Materials Science and Engineering concentration, known now as Materials and Manufacturing Technology.
