The UC Irvine Department of Biomedical Engineering in the Samueli School of Engineering is anticipating openings in the specialist series throughout the academic year 2020-21. These positions offer a stimulating array of research and training opportunities within the various labs in the department.

Seeking qualified candidates with experience in the following biomedical engineering fields:

Specialists in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering

$44,500-$163,800

The UC Irvine Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering anticipates openings for all levels of the specialist series. Applications are being sought from graduates with backgrounds in mechanical or aerospace engineering.

Applicants must have a proven track record of research. Positions are dependent on extramural funding and research contracts of individual principal investigators. The positions may be full or part-time and may be without salary. Dependent upon extramural funding, salary is commensurate with experience.

Junior or Assistant Specialist - Gorodetsky Group

The Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering at UC Irvine invites applicants for a part time junior or assistant specialist position, in the Gorodetsky Group. The position requires knowledge of infrared and thermal characterization of materials. The responsibilities will include the development of infrared-reflecting and thermoregulatory materials. Candidates should have relevant experience and a bachelor's degree in chemical engineering, materials science, chemistry or related fields.

Junior or Assistant Specialist - Gorodetsky Group

The Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering at the University of California, Irvine invites applicants for a part time Junior or Assistant Specialist position, in the Gorodetsky Group. The position requires knowledge of protein engineering and bacterial protein expression. The responsibilities will include high-throughput expression, characterization and processing of cephalopod proteins. Candidates should have relevant experience and a B.S. in chemical engineering, the biological sciences, biochemistry or related fields.

Assistant/Associate Specialist – Gorodetsky Lab

Assistant or Associate Specialist Position – Gorodetsky Group

The Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering at the University of California, Irvine invites applicants for a part time Assistant or Associate Specialist position, in the Gorodetsky Group. The position requires a chemist with expertise in DNA-inspired materials. The responsibilities will include the synthesis of organic electronic molecules and/or phosphoramidites or incorporation into biomolecular scaffolds. Candidates should have a Ph.D. in chemistry or related field.

Assistant Specialist Position – Adams Research Group

The Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering at UC Irvine invites applicants for a junior specialist position focused on yeast protein expression and metabolic engineering. The applicant should have experience working with yeast (in particular, Saccharomyces cerevisiae and Kluyveromyces marxianus), strain and vector construction, CRISPR-Cas9, HPLC and other analytical techniques. Good organization and communication skills and ability to work in a team setting are essential.

Assistant Specialist Position – Nilsson Group

The Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering at UC Irvine invites applicants for an assistant specialist position to work on preparation and analysis of chemical degradation products from ionizing radiation using the UCI TRIGA reactor. The applicant must have experience in handling and working with open sources of radioactive material, preparation of samples for irradiation, post irradiation analysis including metal-ion extraction and complexation, calculations of irradiation yield and dosimetry. Use and function of radiation detectors is also required.
