Research interests in the Mecartney Group are focused on the development of new and multiphase ceramics for energy applications (fuel cells, nuclear energy, solid state lighting, oxygen sensors) and for use in extreme environments with an emphasis on how grain boundaries and interfaces control physical properties of ceramics. Mecartney specializes in research on optimal microstructural design of oxide ceramics, interfacial engineering of high temperature materials, and the use of analytical transmission electron microscopy. See Research Group Website for details of specific projects.
