Mohamed Recognized for Research
Known around campus as "FAM," the professor emeritus was recognized for his research excellence.
“I am deeply humbled by this great recognition considering the distinguished standing of the previous recipients of the MSEA prize,” Mohamed said. “I would like to take this opportunity to acknowledge the efforts and dedication of many students − graduate and undergraduates − colleagues and staff, with whom I have been fortunate to work over the years.”
Mohamed is interested in the mechanical behavior of engineering materials such as metals, composites and ceramics; the correlation between behavior and microstructure; creep and superplasticity; and the mechanisms responsible for strengthening and fracture. He has been recognized by the Institute for Scientific Research as one of the most highly cited, influential researchers in the field of materials science and engineering and is a recipient of many campus teaching and mentoring awards.
The MSEA award was announced in a ceremony last month at the 2017 meeting of The Minerals, Metals and Materials Society in San Diego.
