Schoenung Selected for Endowed Chair

Julie Schoenung is named the Daniel G. Aldrich Jr. Endowed Chair.

May 25, 2023 - Julie Schoenung has been named the Daniel G. Aldrich Jr. Endowed Chair for her research contributions to the advancement of materials research.

Schoenung, professor and chair of the UCI Department of Materials Science and Engineering, is a member of the National Academy of Engineering and National Academy of Inventors. She is a fellow of Alpha Sigma Mu, the Materials Research Society, American Ceramic Society, ASM International and the Minerals, Metals & Materials Society. She is also co-director of the World Institute for Sustainable Development of Materials (WISDOM) at UCI.

In her research, Schoenung synthesizes, characterizes and models new materials to meet the increasing demands of lightweight structural components, batteries for energy storage and various other engineering applications. She also studies the impacts of materials transactions on human health and environmental quality, and leads efforts to advance sustainable development of materials, especially as used in manufacturing processes.

The Daniel G. Aldrich Jr. Endowed Chair was established in 1988 in honor of UCI’s founding chancellor.
