Ceramic and Glass Industry Foundation Donates Equipment
Oct. 23, 2017 - The Ceramic and Glass Industry Foundation has selected the Samueli School Department of Chemical Engineering and Materials Science as the recipient of a new high-energy vertical planetary ball mill system, a state-of-the-art grinding device for use in processing powder from ceramics, glass and nanomaterials. The foundation, which sought proposals from university researchers, partnered with MSE Supplies to donate the equipment.
“This donation will strengthen our undergraduate synthesis and characterization lab course in materials science engineering and will let me develop even more relevant lab components on ceramic processing for my undergrad ceramics course,” said Professor Martha L. Mecartney, who submitted the proposal on behalf of UC Irvine. “We are so grateful to MSE Supplies for sponsoring this opportunity. Funding to upgrade undergraduate labs is very difficult to get, but there is no substitution for hands-on experience.”
