Faryar Jabbari Named Associate Dean for Academic Affairs

Professor Faryar Jabbari, Ph.D., Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, has been named Associate Dean for Academic Affairs of The Henry Samueli School of Engineering effective October 1, 2011.

The Associate Dean for Academic Affairs is charged with conducting independent, impartial and thorough analyses of academic personnel actions in order to provide recommendations to the dean. Jabbari will also be responsible for reviewing the credentials and recommending the approval of appointments and other actions for non-senate research personnel, and has dean-delegated signature authority for those personnel actions.

As associate dean, he will chair the Academic Personnel Advisory Committee (APAC); will coordinate responsibilities with the dean’s office regarding faculty recruitment and retention offers; and will be involved with all process and procedural matters regarding academic appointment and review.



His record of service includes serving as a member and chair of the following: UC Irvine’s Council on Academic Personnel (CAP); UC Irvine’s Committee on Committees (CoC); and UC Irvine’s Committee on Research (COR). Professor Jabbari also served on the Research Infrastructure Group (RIG), an advisory group for the Office of the Vice Chancellor of Research.  His other service duties include membership on the UC Irvine Graduate Council, serving as associate chair of the Department of the Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering and serving on various University of California-wide committees.

Professor Jabbari received his Ph.D. in mechanical engineering from UCLA in 1986 and that July was hired as assistant professor for UC Irvine’s school of engineering.
