Li Named IEEE Fellow

UCI Calit2 Director G.P. Li has been elected a 2023 IEEE Fellow in recognition of his “contributions to the bipolar device, circuit and technology in silicon and compound semiconductors.”

May 8, 2023 - UCI Calit2 Director G.P. Li has been elected a 2023 IEEE Fellow in recognition of his outstanding research achievements. Li, who has been on the UCI faculty for 34 years, is a professor of electrical engineering and computer science.

The fellow designation is awarded by the IEEE board of directors to no more than one-tenth of one percent of the organization’s voting membership – those considered to have extraordinary records of accomplishment.

The IEEE recognized Li for his “contributions to the bipolar device, circuit and technology in silicon and compound semiconductors.”

Li’s research involves micro/nano technology for sensors and actuators, Internet of Things (IoT), smart manufacturing, biomedical devices and millimeter-wave wireless communication. His current projects focus on developing technologies for efficient energy utilization and consumption, and human-centric actionable intelligence (AI). Li holds 40 patents and has started four companies based on his inventions.

“I am honored to join my colleagues at UCI as an IEEE fellow and thank those who supported my nomination,” said Li. “My accomplishments can be attributed to the creative work over the years of my students and collaborators, with whom I share this recognition.”

This brings the number of Samueli School electrical engineering and computer science faculty recognized as IEEE Fellows to 22.

IEEE is the world’s largest technical professional organization dedicated to advancing technology for the benefit of humanity.
