How to Apply:

Learn Where to Start

:

Most students begin their college experience by deciding what to study.  There are numerous possibilities at UC Irvine, and dozens of disciplines even within engineering.  Home to five academic departments, two interdisciplinary programs, and six research centers, the Samueli School offers unparalleled opportunity for students to explore whatever area of engineering most appeals to them most, whether it's biomedical, wireless computing, advanced energy systems, or aerodynamic design.

Using these resources as a foundation, we work with students to help them further explore options both inside and outside engineering. We assist students in finding the major that is right for them, and support undergraduates interested in minors, and even dual- or triple-majors.

Our faculty and staff also work to continuously provide opportunities to interact with industry, as well as prominent research labs, to solve real-world challenges and problems.

Prosper From Industry Partnerships:

Engineering, like medicine or law, is a professional discipline, where emerging engineers should not only hold a degree, but also have practical training and an understanding of the responsibilities that come with this career. Engineering is also a highly dynamic discipline, and partnerships with industry are needed to help shape the curriculum as trends change, as well as give students access to the experience of being an engineer.

The Henry Samueli School of Engineering prides itself on the role industry plays in its academic education. Representatives from industry participate in evaluating and developing the objectives for each of the engineering undergraduate majors by helping to determine the topics and values that are most relevant to employers. Industry partners also provide regular, detailed feedback on how UCI engineers are prepared and perform in the first few years following graduation.

Orange County is a burgeoning area for the high-tech industry, and is poised to become a central hub for technological research and development in the 21st century. The campus is in close proximity to aerospace, biomedical, communications, and computer companies, which presents unique employment and internship opportunities for the most ambitious students. Local industry contributes to each major in the Samueli School, providing the necessary tools to train our engineering students.
