HYDROGEN-FUELED VEHICLE DELIVERED TO UCI

EVENT:
Toyota will deliver a hydrogen-fueled Fuel Cell Hybrid Vehicle to the University of California, Irvine at a luncheon being held to commemorate the expansion of California's Hydrogen Highway.

The National Fuel Cell Research Center at UCI, which oversees the fuel cell program, will lease the second vehicle to Irvine-based Horiba Instruments, as it did the first one a year ago. Executives from Horiba Instruments will drive the SUV daily and provide real-world data on the functionality and capabilities of hydrogen vehicles.

The Toyota hybrid is based on the popular Toyota Highlander SUV and uses a combination of an electric motor and a hydrogen fuel cell. The only byproduct is water vapor, thus classifying the FCHV as a zero-emissions vehicle.

A ride and drive will follow the lunch to allow attendees to experience Toyota's hydrogen fuel cell vehicles.
