John Labib, S.E., has thirty years of structural engineering experience and a vast portfolio of projects spanning the industry’s commercial, hospitality, multi-family, affordable housing and single-family sectors. Originally from Egypt, Labib immigrated to California at 19, and went on to receive his bachelor’s degree from UC Irvine and a master’s degree from UC Berkeley, where he specialized in earthquake engineering. After managing many high-profile projects, including the renovation and seismic retrofit of the Getty Villa in Malibu and Dodgers Stadium, he started his own firm, Labib Funk and Associates (LFA), in 2003. Today, LFA is one of SoCal’s premier structural, civil and shoring engineering firms, known for its award-winning projects including Intuit Dome, West Edge Office Tower and Residential Complex, SoFi Stadium, and both the Lakers’ and Clippers’ training facilities. In 2018, John was the commencement speaker for UCI Samueli School of Engineering, honored with the Lauds & Laurels Distinguished Alumnus Award in Engineering and inducted into the inaugural Samueli School of Engineering Hall of Fame.
