Sorooshian to Share Water Resources Expertise as Hagler Fellow

Soroosh Sorooshian, whose work in water resources over nearly two decades has been well recognized worldwide by many countries, is selected as a Hagler Fellow.

Jan. 24, 2024 - UCI Distinguished Professor Soroosh Sorooshian was selected as a 2023-24 Hagler Fellow by Texas A&M University’s Hagler Institute for Advanced Study. He is one of 14 scholars who have distinguished themselves through outstanding professional accomplishments to be chosen this year to collaborate with Texas A&M faculty and graduate students on solving some of the world’s toughest problems. 

An expert in the field of hydrometeorology, Sorooshian has advanced water-resource systems through his application of remote sensing and development of innovative estimation methods for rainfall-runoff models and high-resolution global precipitation measurements. He is a member of the National Academy of Engineering, International Academy of Astronautics and the European Academy of Sciences. He is a fellow of multiple associations including the American Geophysical Union, American Meteorological Society, American Association for the Advancement of Science and the International Union of Geodesy and Geophysics. He has authored seven books and more than 300 peer-reviewed publications. 

As a Hagler Fellow, Sorooshian will collaborate with a number of researchers across three departments, which include atmospheric sciences, civil and environmental engineering, and biological and agricultural engineering. Together, they will develop proposals to address such challenging global issues as extreme weather events and trends.

The Hagler Institute was established in 2010 to attract scholars for three months to yearlong visiting appointments across A&M campuses, institutes and agencies.
