UCI Civil Engineers Recognized by ASCE
Feb. 25, 2016 - Two UC Irvine civil engineering alumnae and one assistant professor received awards at the American Society of Civil Engineers, Orange County Branch, 2016 Awards Banquet held in mid-February. The annual event recognizes outstanding local civil engineering individuals and projects.
Amir Aghakouchak received the Outstanding ASCE Faculty Advisor award in acknowledgement of his services as an outstanding civil engineer, educator, mentor and researcher.
Roxanne Follis ’12 earned the Outstanding Youth Member Forum (YMF) Officer award. Follis was a UCI student when she joined ASCE’s YMF. She became YMF president within only three years and is an example of how YMF helps individuals transition from student to professional. She has assisted in the coordination of numerous events, most notably the Women in Engineering Panel and Corazon Home Builds.
Elizabeth Ruedas ’14 won the President’s Award. A design engineer at CNC Engineering, Ruedas was recognized for improving the communication streams of the Orange County branch of ASCE and the YMF by providing effective outreach tools to both the membership at large and other entities, as well as streamlining the efforts of all active board officers.
