Engineering Student Wins Prestigious Tau Beta Pi Scholarship
Arwen E. Brown, a senior in the Department of Chemical Engineering and Materials Science, won a $2,000 scholarship from Tau Beta Pi, the engineering honor society. Brown was one of 38 undergraduates chosen out of a pool of 234 Tau Beta Pi applicants nationwide. She also was one of only two engineering students chosen from the entire UC system. The other is a bioengineering student from UC Berkeley. The Tau Beta Pi Fellowship Board selected Brown based on her campus leadership, scholarship, service and the "promise of future contributions to the engineering profession." The Tau Beta Pi award comes on the heels of Brown being named the 2003 Student of the Year in Chemical Engineering and Materials Science by the UCI Engineering Student Council. Tau Beta Pi was founded at Lehigh University in 1885. With 226 collegiate chapters and active alumnus chapters in 16 cities in the U.S., Tau Beta Pi is the world's largest engineering society. |
