Abstract: Srinivasa has been focusing on deploying robotics and AI in fulfilment, first at his startup Berkshire Grey (2014-2018), and then founding and leading the Robotics AI organization at Amazon (2018-2022). You receive packages at home today that have been manipulated or transported by his robots. This lecture will present some of the challenges in perception, continual learning, motion planning and control. We will discuss solutions to date and the technical gaps that need addressing. We will also talk about lessons learned scaling robotics and AI worldwide to thousands of systems.

Bio: Sidd Srinivasa is the Boeing Endowed Professor at the Paul G. Allen School of Computer Science at the University of Washington, and a Distinguished Engineer at Cruise, a General Motors subsidiary self-driving car company headquartered in San Francisco. Prior to that, he was the director of Robotics AI, an approximately 400-person organization, at Amazon. He spent 18 years at The Robotics Institute at Carnegie Mellon University. Srinivasa is a full-stack roboticist, an IEEE Fellow and has authored numerous best papers. He is also a first-wave founder of Berkshire Grey Inc. which is currently trading publicly on the New York Stock Exchange.
