Abstract:
California water managers must necessarily take a dual approach to fighting global climate change: mitigation, meaning reduction in the greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions that accelerate global warming and climate variability; and adaptation, referring to the ways in which our culture and infrastructure will have to change in order to successfully manage the extremes that global warming threatens.
About the Speaker:
John Andrew is executive manager for climate change for the California Department of Water Resources (DWR). Immediately prior to this position, Andrew was DWR's chief of special planning projects. From 2000 to 2003, Andrew served as the Drinking Water Quality Program manager and
Program. He was also the chief of fish facilities for DWR's Environmental Services Office. His other work experience includes the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, California Department of Health Services, and Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. From 1991 to 1998, Andrew served as a publicly elected director of the Stege Sanitary District, which provides wastewater collection services for 40,000 customers in western
