The UC Irvine Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering, Center for Hydrometeorology and Remote Sensing (CHRS), invites applications for an associate specialist position beginning 4/1/2018.

The center is looking for an associate specialist in the area of improving precipitation estimation and forecast for reservoir operation using remote sensing and in-situ observations. The candidate will be responsible for developing quantitative precipitation estimation and forecast in support of short-term hydropower scheduling.

The Architected Materials Lab at UC Irvine is currently accepting applications for an associate specialist position. The research will focus on mechanical modeling of nano-architected materials, with emphasis on high strain rate response. We are seeking an individual with a strong background in computational solid mechanics – in particular finite elements analysis. Experience with topology optimization is highly desirable. A Ph.D. in mechanical engineering, materials science, physics, or a related field is required.

The successful candidate will work with colleagues at local instrumentation companies and at UCI to study the fundamentals and applications of holography using femtosecond laser sources.
