CEE Seminar (ZOOM): Engaging Engineers with K-12 Outreach to Create Capacity and Strengthen STEM Identity for K-12 Students

Abstract: Attend this seminar to learn about the current field of science and engineering in K-12 settings, how it’s been impacted due to COVID-19, and ways to get involved to support and inspire students and teachers in the region. Remote instruction has further exacerbated inequities in low-income and marginalized communities, and the UCI Science Project seeks to address some of these inequities through our outreach programs. There are many ways to get involved to work with teachers and students as agents of change through engineering. I look forward to meeting you, hearing your stories and sharing more about these opportunities to connect with local school districts around UCI.

Bio: Kelley Le has been in the educational field for a decade as a high school science educator, instructional coach, consultant and educational leader. She comes to UCISP from the UCI CalTeach Math & Science Program where she served as a coordinator, lecturer and program designer. Her prior roles include being the CA science instructional specialist for a program authored by the Lawrence Hall of Science, curriculum consultant for the UCLA Curtis Center, and program designer and facilitator for the UCLA Science Project. Le attended an inner-city Title 1 school in Los Angeles and is a first-generation multilingual language student. She received her educational training from UCLA’s Center X Teacher Education Program, and the UCLA Educational Leadership Program (ELP). She currently develops and facilitates programs in the areas of climate change education, nanoscience, next-generation science, transformational coaching and mentoring.
