The Edwards Lifesciences Center for Advanced Cardiovascular Technology Conducts First Open House

The Edwards Lifesciences Center for Advanced Cardiovascular Technology held its first Open House on Thursday, October 20, 2011, at The Henry Samueli School of Engineering.

The keynote speaker was Michael A. Mussallem, chairman and chief executive officer of Edwards Lifesciences Corporation. Mussallem, a 2011 recipient of the UCI Medal, spoke about whether innovation is at risk and how the biomedical engineering industry can work with the Center.

Steven C. George, M.D., Ph.D., director of the Center, talked about the Center's new Surgical and Imaging Facilty, which will be available for use by outside researchers. Dr. Albert Starr, co-inventor of the world’s first artificial heart valve, spoke about the Macro Economics of Innovation.



The Open House also featured student poster presentations and guided tours of the various labs within the Center.
