Engineering Students Showcase their Talent

2019 Art of Engineering

Oct. 3, 2019 – More than 150 students crowded the student center on Monday, Sept. 30 for the sixth annual Art of Engineering Showcase, featuring 13 student performances. Hosted by the Engineering Student Council, the 1990s-themed evening of entertainment aimed to recruit students to the 20 engineering student organizations in attendance. The event included networking, food, raffle prizes and a wide range of talent.

“The Art of Engineering showcase was created primarily to support students in ways outside of engineering,” said Samueli School Dean Gregory Washington, who welcomed the students. Washington kicked-off the performance portion of the evening with his own comedy act.

Emitt Riffenburgh, ESC vice president of development and event organizer, was excited with the large turnout. He acknowledged that the showcase had taken a lot of hard work to produce, and he appreciated the help of his ESC colleague Julianna Bordas, vice president of relations. Bordas helped coordinate the participation of the school’s engineering student organizations.

“This event fosters a great community and strongly highlights the engineering clubs available on campus to our incoming freshman classmates,” said Bordas.

The evening included a musical guitar performance by the American Institute of Chemical Engineers, various contemporary dance performances by the Society of Women Engineers, the Engineering Brigade, the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers, a traditional Hispanic cultural dance routine and many more.
