Won Wins ASME Early Career Award

The ASME award recognizes a young engineer for outstanding technical achievements and service to the field.Sept. 20, 2018- The American Society of Mechanical Engineers recently honored Yoonjin Won, Samueli School mechanical and aerospace engineering assistant professor, with its Electronics and Photonics Packaging Division 2018 Early Career Award.

The award recognizes a young engineer – fewer than 10 years into his/her career – for outstanding technical achievements in the area of electronic and photonic packaging as demonstrated through papers, patents or product development, as well as service to the field.

Won explores novel thermal metamaterials to improve phase-change performance and to create unique combinations of thermal and fluidic transport for applications including microfluidic cooling devices, thermal interfaces and energy-conversion processes.

She collected an engraved plaque at last month’s 2018 ASME InterPack Conference, held in San Francisco.

“I appreciate the recognition from my heat transfer community and also thank the three ASME fellows who wrote letters for my nomination,” Won said.
