Markopoulou Named OCEC Outstanding Educator

Feb. 2, 2017 - The Orange County Engineering Council has named Samueli School engineer Athina Markopoulou this year’s Outstanding Educator. Markopoulou, associate professor of electrical engineering and computer science, will receive the award later this month at the OCEC National Engineers Week Honors and Awards Banquet. The event honors the accomplishments, quality and diversity of engineers and related scientific communities in Southern California.

Markopoulou was recognized for her commitment to professional engineering activities beyond the normal scope of teaching, her involvement in student extracurricular activities and her scientific achievements with industry.

“I am honored to receive this award,” said Markopoulou, “and I am looking forward to engaging even closer with the Orange County engineering community.”

OCEC is a nonprofit organization dedicated to enhancing the public image of engineers and scientists and promoting the interaction of professional societies, engineering and scientific corporations and universities in Orange County.
