ChEMS Professor Honored

August 24, 2016 - Samueli School chemical engineering and materials science Professor Julie Schoenung has been elected a Fellow of the Alpha Sigma Mu International Professional Honor Society.

Schoenung, who researches nanostructured and ultrafine-grained materials, green materials and green engineering design, will accept her award in October at the Materials Science & Technology 2016 conference in Salt Lake City, Utah.

The Alpha Sigma Mu Fellow Award recognizes mid-career materials professionals who have distinguished themselves in industry, government, education or management, and/or through service to the society. “I was very surprised to be chosen for this award, and I am quite honored,” said Schoenung.

Last fall, the materials scientist also won the 2016 Acta Materiala Holloman Award, recognizing demonstrated leadership in promoting an understanding of the relationship between materials technology and societal interests.
