Two Honored with Teaching Awards

May 13, 2016 - Two Samueli School of Engineering educators were recognized this month at UC Irvine’s 23rd annual Celebration of Teaching event, held May 5.

Nancy DaSilva, chemical engineering & materials science professor, was chosen by Samueli School Dean Gregory Washington as the school’s Dean’s Honoree for Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching. DaSilva, who holds a joint appointment in biomedical engineering, focuses her research on molecular biotechnology, specifically molecular level design, application and analysis of industrial yeasts. She joined the UCI faculty in 1988.

Also honored for contributions to quality undergraduate education was chemical engineering and materials science graduate student Dominique Ingato. She was selected by the Center for Engaged Instruction as a 2015-2016 Pedagogical Fellow – a mentor teaching assistant who develops and implements professional development programs and training workshops for their peers.

Since its launch in 1992, the Celebration of Teaching event has recognized more than 300 UCI professors, lecturers and TAs for exemplary teaching.
