EECS Alumnus Named 2011 Lauds & Laurels Distinguished Alumnus for Engineering

Paramesh Gopi, Ph.D., president and chief executive officer of Applied Micro Circuits Corporation headquartered in Sunnyvale, California, with sales and engineering offices located throughout the world, is the recipient of the 2011 Lauds & Laurels Distinguished Alumnus Award from The Henry Samueli School of Engineering. Gopi earned B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees from the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (EECS) in the Samueli School in 1991, 1993 and 2003, respectively.

Gopi joined Applied Micro in July 2008 as senior vice president and chief operating officer and was promoted to president and chief executive officer in May 2009.  He is also a member of the board of directors.  Previously, he was vice president and general manager of the Embedded and Emerging Business Unit of Marvell Semiconductor, Inc., a provider of mixed-signal and digital signal processing integrated circuits to broadband digital data networking markets.  Gopi served as chief technologist and held several management positions during his six-year tenure at Marvell.  Before joining Marvell, he served as executive director of strategic marketing and applications at Mindspeed Technologies, Inc./Conexant Systems, Inc., a mixed-signal processing company.   Gopi joined Conexant as part of its acquisition of Entridia Corporation, a company he founded in 1999 and a provider of network processing application-specific integrated circuits (ASIC) for optical networks. 

During his professional career, Gopi is proud to have been involved with several of the major revolutionary consumer product launches in the past decade, including driving embedded wireless networking (Wi-Fi) and gigahertz ARM processors into platforms ranging from the Sony PlayStation to the Apple iPhone.
