Dean Receives Honorary Doctorate from the National Technical University of Athens

The Henry Samueli School of Engineering would like to congratulate Dean Nicolaos G. Alexopoulos for receiving a honorary doctorate from the National Technical University of Athens, Greece (NTUA), the first distinction of its kind given by NTUA in nearly 20 years.

Dean Alexopoulos was selected for this honor based on his following contributions to the global engineering community:

          • For his fundamental contributions in the development and teaching of excellent curricula in electromagnetic theory and microwave technologies
          • For the international recognition of his pioneering research in the field of three dimensional microwave and millimeter wave structures

          • For his efforts to project Greek civilization with emphasis on the fundamental contributions of the library and museum of Alexandria to the historical evolution of science and engineering
          • For his continuous and hands-on interest for the Institution, and his support and mentoring of NTUA students

Dean Alexopoulos accepted this honorary doctorate in Athens on Nov. 21, 2005 at a reception hosted by NTUA, and attended by university officials, students, and guests.  He had the opportunity to speak to the audience, and focused on discussing the importance of engineers and scientists in today’s society.

“I am honored to be recognized by this distinguished institution, and given special acknowledgment,” said Dean Alexopoulos.
