Professor Healey Elected IEEE Fellow

Glenn Healey, Professor of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, has been elected an IEEE Fellow for "contributions to the modeling and processing of multispectral and hyperspectral images."

Each year the IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers) recognizes a small fraction of its membership by election to Fellow grade in recognition of extraordinary achievement.

Dr. Healey is a leading researcher in the automated analysis of imagery with multiple spectral bands ranging from three-band color data to hyperspectral data with hundreds of spectral channels per pixel. An important innovation of his work has been to analyze high-fidelity models for illuminants, materials, sensors, and the atmosphere to allow utilization within advanced image processing algorithms. Dr. Healey's work has improved the capability of systems for a wide range of applications including object recognition, face recognition, target detection, texture analysis, biomedical image analysis, microelectronics inspection, multimedia, and image indexing. He is director of the UC Irvine Computer Vision Laboratory.
