EECS Colloquium

Important information regarding the EECS 294 Colloquium course (effective Fall 2019):

If you plan to enroll into EECS 294 Colloquium, please know that the seminars take place on the first (1st) and third (3rd) Friday of each month during the quarter. This means you need to enroll in EECS 294 prior to Friday of the start of the quarter to give EEE lead time to have you listed on the course roster so that you can take Quiz #1 on Canvas starting at 5:00 p.m. following the Friday seminar.

This is a 1 unit course. Grading Option: "Satisfactory" or "Unsatisfactory" only.

In order to receive a "Satisfactory" grade each enrolled student must physically attend all five (5) colloquium seminars. Seminars will be held on the first and third Friday of each month during each quarter. If you miss attending any of the five seminars within the quarter, you will automatically receive an "Unsatisfactory" grade. Attendance will be recorded. You must sign-in upon entering the McDonnell Douglas Engineering Auditorium (MDEA - Bldg. #311 on the campus map) or you will not receive credit for attending.

In addition to attendance, students must complete online quizzes on Canvas. This means at least three quizzes need to be completed with a passing score after attending all five seminars. There will be one online quiz following each seminar. Students must take and pass three (3) of the five (5) online quizzes in order to receive a "Satisfactory" grade.

Each quiz will only be available online starting from 5:00 pm following each Friday’s seminar, and will close on the following Tuesday at 8:00 am.

Each quiz is timed. You will be given a 60-minute duration to complete the test once you start the testing.

Questions will consist of multiple choice and/or True/False. You must get three out of the five questions correct in order to pass each quiz. Each question is worth 1 point. A passing score is 3 points or higher out of 5 points. You will be able to view your scores following each quiz.

MS students are required to take at least one quarter of EECS 294 in order to fulfill the MS degree requirements.

Ph.D. students are required to take at least four quarters of EECS 294 in order to fulfill the Ph.D. degree requirements.

In summary, to achieve a ‘Satisfactory’ final grade, the student must have for the quarter:

  • 5 attendances at the EECS 294 Colloquium Seminars
  • 3 out of the 5 quizzes completed with a passing score on Canvas
  • 3 quizzes passed with a score of 3+ points
