Suh’s research focuses on information theory and machine learning. He worked at Samsung Electronics before earning his doctorate and then became a postdoctoral associate with MIT’s Research Laboratory of Electronics. He comes to UCI from the faculty of the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology. Suh is a recipient of the 2021 James L. Massey Research & Teaching Award for Young Scholars from the IEEE Information Theory Society; 2018 IEIE/IEEE Joint Award for contributions to communication, distributed storage, and artificial intelligence; the 2015 IEIE Haedong Young Engineer Award; and a 2019 Google Education Grant. He is a member of the Young Korean Academy of Science and Technology, a Distinguished Lecturer for the IEEE Information Theory Society, an associate editor of machine learning for IEEE Transactions on Information Theory and editor of the IEEE Information Theory Newsletter.
