Sustainable aviation hydrogen powerplant developer Hydroplane has been awarded a prestigious CalTestBed voucher from the California Energy Commission to conduct testing and accelerate commercialization of its revolutionary new electric propulsion system. … The award will permit Hydroplane to conduct ground-based commercialization studies at the National Fuel Cell Research Center (NFRC) at the University of California at Irvine. The team will assess performance of the fuel cell powerplant in conditions that simulate the flight environment – for example, changes in altitude and temperature.
To the average visitor to the RapidTech prototyping center at University of California, Irvine, the methodical buzz of its 3-D printers would be nothing more than background noise. But to Mohammad Al Faruque, that hum is valuable information.
Scientists from the University of California, Irvine, and other institutions have announced that they have architecturally designed plate-nanolattices, which are nanometer-sized carbon structures. The team says that the structures are stronger than diamonds as a ratio of strength to density. The scientists reported their success in conceptualizing and fabricating a material, consisting of closely connected, close-cell plates instead of the common cylindrical trusses common in such structures.
The UC Irvine Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering in the Samueli School of Engineering is anticipating openings in all levels of the specialist series throughout the academic year 2022-23. Applications are being sought from graduates with backgrounds in mechanical or aerospace engineering.
A postdoctoral researcher studying systems neurobiology at the Salk Institute of Biological Studies in San Diego was announced Monday as one of five recipients of L'Oreal USA's 2020 For Women in Science Fellowship, which annually awards grants of $60,000 to five female postdoctoral scientists. … Other 2020 recipients include: … Wendy Brown, whose research in biomedical engineering at UC Irvine focuses on growing cartilage from cells in anatomical shapes and sizes for surgical implantation ….
The UCI Department of Biomedical Engineering (BME) in the Samueli School of Engineering is anticipating openings in the specialist series in the field of tissue engineering throughout the academic year 2023-24. These positions offer a stimulating array of research and training opportunities within the various laboratories in the department.
