Our mission is to provide students with a broad, fundamental and flexible educational program and to expand engineering knowledge through an active and exciting undergraduate and graduate research program. The department is dedicated to providing life-long development, instilling a sense of professional responsibility, and serving our society. We provide an environment that promotes teamwork and values integrity and honesty in all efforts. Civil and environmental engineering is an inherently interdisciplinary field.
A team of researchers from the University of California, Irvine analyzed data from 9,000 weather stations around the world and determined the global temperature has increased by 0.19 degrees Celsius each decade for the last 50 years. They also noted that the increase was even more pronounced in the last 30 years — a 0.25 degree-increase each between 1986 and 2015.
Maaikee Pronda, the reigning Miss Fountain Valley, was crowned second runner-up at the Miss California competition in Fresno Friday. … At age 20, Pronda earned her bachelor’s degree in biomedical engineering at UC Irvine .… She graduated magna cum laude from both Fountain Valley High School and UC Irvine. At UCI, she was president of the Engineering Student Council and initiated “Introduce a Girl to Engineering Day,” which partnered local companies with Girls Scouts and their parents during an interactive learning event.
Engineers at the University of California, Irvine, have made a new and improved space blanket that allows users to control their temperature. The blanket, inspired by the adaptive properties of cephalopod skin, comprises a soft and stretchable polymer matrix that is transparent to infrared radiation covered with an array of infrared-deflecting metal domains anchored within the matrix.
