Assistant Project Scientist – 4D STEM and Vibrational EELS for Advanced Materials

Commensurate with experience
Will remain open until filled

UC Irvine (UCI) is currently accepting applications for a researcher at the level of assistant project scientist. he research will focus on the development and application of scanning transmission electron microscopy (STEM) diffraction imaging (4D-STEM) and ultrahigh energy resolution electron energy-loss spectroscopy (EELS) techniques for quantum and energy materials. The primary responsibility of this position will be to work for Professor Xiaoqing Pan in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at to develop new research directions focusing on quantum and energy materials. Candidates will have access to the state-of-the-art TEM/STEM facilities available at the UC Irvine Materials Research Institute (IMRI), https://imri.uci.edu/facilities/tem-facility/tem-instruments/. There will be an invaluable opportunity to collaborate with materials synthesis, property measurements, and computation and modeling.

Required Qualifications:
The applicant must possess outstanding communication skills and be able to clearly communicate the scientific significance of in-situ STEM and EELS datasets to collaborators. Basic qualifications include a strong background and experience in aberration corrected high-resolution TEM imaging, STEM EELS and image/EELS spectrum acquisition and processing. Experience in the NION STEM and vibrational electron microscopy using high resolution EELS for quantum and energy materials is preferred. A knowledge of materials synthesis and some knowledge of data science for electron microscopy is also desired. A doctorate in physics, materials science or related disciplines is required.

Required Documents:
Application Procedure: Applicants will be required to upload a curriculum vitae, name/addresses of at least three references and cover letter expressing area(s) of interest to our online RECRUIT system at https://recruit.ap.uci.edu/JPF06634. A diversity statement submission is strongly encouraged. To ensure full consideration, applications and supporting materials should be received by March 15, 2021.
