Postdoctoral Scholars – Computation and Theory of Grain Boundary Migration

Commensurate with experience
Will remain open until filled

UC Irvine is currently accepting applications for a postdoctoral scholar to join a collaborative research project on computation and theory of grain boundary migration through a joint research project between David Srolovitz (chair and professor of materials science and engineering, City University of Hong Kong and adjunct professor of materials science and engineering, University of Pennsylvania) and Xiaoqing Pan (endowed chair and professor of engineering, UC Irvine), funded by the Army Research Office. We are looking for an individual to join a combined experimental/computational modelling effort on the prediction of grain boundary migration kinetics and mechanisms. The computational work is tightly integrated with our high-resolution, in-situ, TEM studies of grain boundary migration. The postdoctoral position will be in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at UC Irvine, where our experimental studies are based. The candidate will have an invaluable opportunity to work with both leading experimental and theoretical groups. Consideration of candidates will begin immediately; the positions will remain open until filled.

Required Qualifications:

An individual with a strong background in computational materials science, condensed matter physics and/or materials chemistry is preferred. The successful postdoctoral fellow applicant should be experienced in molecular dynamics, kinetic Monte Carlo, and DFT methods and conversant in grain boundary structure, rate theory and statistical mechanics. A Ph.D. in engineering, materials science, physics, chemistry or related fields is required.

Requirements Documents:
• Curriculum Vitae – Your updated C.V.
• Cover Letter - Outlining your interests and relevant skills and experience

References: Three references required (contact information only)

Salary: commensurate with qualifications and years of experience
Job location: Irvine, CA
