Postdoctoral Scholar with Professor Adeyemi Adeleye
The UC Irvine Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering invites applications for a postdoctoral scholar position beginning April 2021.
The postdoctoral researcher will develop and implement a framework for determining the important sources of perfluorinated compounds within a sewershed. The project will involve working with water and wastewater utilities to design framework, developing analytical techniques to extract and quantify per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances from a variety of matrices, collecting field samples and analyzing the samples for per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances.
The candidate should have strong organization and communication skills, and extensive experience with analyzing organic compounds (preferably, per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances via mass spectrometry) in environmental matrices. Working knowledge of statistics and geographic information systems are a plus. The candidate must have a doctorate in environmental engineering, environmental science, civil engineering, analytical environmental chemistry or a related field from an accredited university. The candidate should demonstrate an ability to independently conduct creative research, a strong commitment to teamwork and an ability to publish peer-reviewed manuscripts.
The postdoctoral scholar will primarily work with Adeyemi Adeleye, assistant professor of civil and environmental engineering. There will be opportunities to collaborate widely across other research groups at UC Irvine, other universities and utilities. Initial appointment will be for 12 months and be renewable, subject to performance and availability of funding.
