The UC Irvine Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor position with an anticipated start date of July 1, 2020. We seek an individual who will strengthen our research and educational programs at the intersection of design, mechanics, control and materials. Of interest are individuals who develop novel mechanisms and apply non-traditional materials and algorithms to solve challenging problems in robotics, medicine, biomechanics and rehabilitation. Candidates should be capable of teaching core systems and design courses, and show a commitment to innovation in hands-on, project-based and laboratory-based educational activities at the undergraduate and graduate levels.

The position will be at the assistant professor rank. Applicants should have a doctorate from an accredited university in a relevant science or engineering discipline. The successful candidate should maintain a strong publication record, develop a vigorous externally funded research program, recruit and supervise graduate students, provide outstanding teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels, and contribute leadership, collaboration and innovative thinking toward an excellent systems and design program within the department and university and to the engineering profession. Successful candidates will also be expected to contribute toward increasing the number of students (especially underrepresented minority students) pursuing graduate degrees in related programs. Information about the department can be found on the website: http://engineering.uci.edu/dept/mae.

Applications should include a cover letter; a description of research, teaching and service interests, including ability to contribute to departmental and interdisciplinary programs; a curriculum vitae; a separate statement that addresses past and/or potential contributions to diversity, equity and inclusion; and the names and contact information of at least four references. References will not be contacted until a later stage of consideration, after consultation with the candidate.
