Sand nourishment isn’t always the best answer. … But UC Irvine civil engineering professor Brett Sanders argues sand replenishment sometimes gets a bad rap. Without sand solutions, some coastal wildlife won’t have places to go. … State Parks is collaborating with UC Irvine to conduct high-tech studies to pinpoint problem areas, said Orange Coast State Parks Superintendent Kevin Pearsall. Researchers are using drone images, topography, monitoring and surveying to measure beaches and track sand movement. [Subscription required, campus-wide access provided by UCI Libraries.
The intellectual and technological resources of the Samueli School catalyze and enable large-scale, multidisciplinary partnerships across the UC Irvine campus, including the School of Medicine, School of Physical Sciences, School of Biological Sciences, College of Health Sciences, the Donald Bren School of Information and Computer Sciences and The Paul Merage School of Business, toward solutions for some of society’s most pressing challenges.
“The infrastructure is optimized to move water quickly to the ocean, and it did its job,” said Brett Sanders, a professor of civil and environmental engineering at the University of California, Irvine.

Chemical Engineering uses knowledge of chemistry, mathematics, physics, biology, and humanities to solve societal problems in areas such as energy, health, the environment, food, clothing, shelter, and materials and serves a variety of processing industries whose vast array of products include chemicals, petroleum products, plastics, pharmaceuticals, foods, textiles, fuels, consumer products, and electronic and cryogenic materials. Chemical engineers also serve society in improving the environment by reducing and eliminating pollution.
In addition to the continuous funding options on the Graduate Financial Support page, the Graduate and Professional Studies (GPS) Office often receives announcements for other University or outside fellowship opportunities. Please refer back to this website often, as new fellowships will be listed regularly.
