Pre-Award

The Samueli School of Engineering (SSoE) employs highly specialized staff to assist with the submission of contract and grant (C&G) proposals from all prospective sponsors including but not limited to the Federal Government, Private Foundations, For-Profit Entities as well as others. The SSoE staff responsible for this task is named the Pre-Award Team.


Mission:

The Pre-Award Team works collaboratively with Principal Investigators (PI) and Sponsored Projects Administration (SPA)/Office of Applied Innovation (OAI) to prepare C&G applications through value-added and high-quality customer service in order to facilitate the PIs’ research and the overall University vision.

Pre-Award Team Responsibilities:

  • For proposals:
    • Review sponsor guidelines to collaborate with the PI with the submission process
    • Assist with budget development including the budget justification
    • Liaison between the PI and SPA or OAI
    • Initiate and monitor the proposal in Kuali Research (KR) for internal review
    • Upload required proposal documentation if requested by the PI
    • Ensure that the proposal application is submitted in accordance with the funding opportunity announcement deadline
  • For Just in Time (JIT) requests:
    • Submit amendments requiring a new or revised budget, including the coordination and preparation of just-in-time requests
  • For Sales and Service agreements:
    • Develop recharge rates for Sales & Service Agreements and work with the Budget Office and Risk Management to get the rate approved and agreement executed
  • For transfer of awards:
    • Aid in the transfer of awards for PIs who are joining SSoE from another institution
