CEE Seminar: Precast/Prestressed Concrete - A Premaster's Message to Engineering Professionals

McDonnell Douglas Engineering Auditorium (MDEA)
Ruth Lehmann, P.E., PMP, LEED Green Associate

Executive Director
PCI West

Abstract: The presentation will focus on different aspects of implementing precast concrete in the design of building and transportation projects including what a precast concrete producer, or precaster, would want future engineering professionals to know:

  • The operation of precast plant
  • The versatility of precast/prestressed concrete products in design
  • The capability of precast/prestressed concrete as a design system in seismic zones
  • Constructability considerations when using precast
  • The role of precast producer in all project phases
  • The role of structural engineer as designer and collaborator

Bio: Ruth Lehmann was recently named the executive director of PCI West, a chapter of the Precast/Prestressed Concrete Institute (PCI) representing precast producers in California and Nevada. In her new role, she represents the precast/prestressed concrete industry and acts as a liaison to construction managers, architects, transportation department officials, engineers, general contractors and academics. Lehmann has more than 20 years of experience as a professional engineer and manager with expertise in transportation and materials engineering. She has served as a board member for several organizations including the Women's Transportation Seminar (WTS), the WTS Foundation, American Council of Engineering Companies, American Public Works Association and on committees for the American Society of Civil Engineers and the Project Management Institute. Lehmann received her bachelor's degree in architectural studies and a master's degree in civil engineering from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. She also holds a bachelor's degree in civil engineering from the Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago. She is a licensed professional engineer in California and Illinois, a LEED Green Associate and is certified as a Project Management Professional through the Project Management Institute.
