Abstract:  Rick Walsh will provide a brief introduction to the most often employed ground improvement, structural foundation and earth retention methodologies employed by Hayward Baker in Southern California. These methodologies will be thoroughly explained, including the types of sites that most benefit and a few project examples. Hayward Baker Inc. Bio:  Rick Walsh is currently the business development manager for Hayward Baker Inc.'s Western Region, which includes all areas west of the Rocky Mountains. He holds a degree in civil engineering from San Diego State University. Walsh is a registered civil and geotechnical engineer in California and has over 25 years of experience. Approximately the first 13 years of his career were spent in geotechnical consulting where he held positions ranging from field technician through senior engineer. During his time in consulting, he completed analysis and design for a wide variety of projects including mass grading, seismic hazard mitigation, forensic studies as well as monitoring, analysis and repair of large landslides. While a specialty geotechnical contractor, he held positions including estimator, project manager, regional manager and now business development manager. Projects worked on during this time include all types of ground improvement, deep foundations and earth retention such as landslide stabilization. He is active in the ASCE, DFI, ADSC and other regional industry groups. He participates in the ADSC and DFI committees for micropiles, drilled shafts, tiebacks and soil nailing. He is the immediate past president of the West Coast Chapter of the ADSC having served in this role from 2012-2015.
